International Cooperation and European Integration Division
International cooperation is essential for the development of meteorology,
hydrology and environmental quality monitoring. Therefore the activity in these fields is impossible without the international exchange of
hydrometeorological information and data, as well as of data on environmental quality. In order to integrate the principles of sustainable
development in the state policies and programs, the Republic of Moldova is paying more attention and is implementing the international
conventions to which the State Hydrometeorological Service adhered.
Generally, the international collaboration of the State Hydrometeorological Service performs its international activity in the following directions:
Participation in the programs of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), UN
Convention to Combat Desertification, UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents;
Membership of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS);
Fulfillment of bilateral agreements with the national hydrometeorological bodies;
Participation in the scientific programs within the international conventions and projects.
Collaboration with National Hydrometeorological Services of different
countries is performed in the framework of bilateral agreements. Intergovernmental programs on long-term cooperation with Ukraine and
Romania significantly contribute to strengthening of the cooperation. Under these agreements and programs regular exchange of operative
hydrometeorological information, monitoring of water resources of the rivers Nistru and Prut are performed.
