 UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents

 

The Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents (CTEIA) is designed for protecting human beings and the environment against industrial accidents by preventing them as far as possible, by reducing their frequency and severity, and by mitigating their effects.

The Convention helps its Parties to prevent industrial accidents that can have transboundary effects and to prepare for, and respond to, accidents if they occur. The Convention also encourages its Parties to help each other in the event of an accident, to cooperate on research and development, and to share information and technology.

Republic of Moldova has acceded CTEIA on the basis of the Parliament Resolution No. 1546-XII from 23 June 1993.

Acceding to the Convention, Moldova received the possibility to access the information regarding modern production processes with a reduced effect on the environment; to EU databases regarding industrial accidents.

Within the Convention there activates the Work Group for Convention implementation at international level, and the nominated member from the SHS is Mrs. Svetlana Ştirbu, deputy chief of the Environmental Quality Monitoring Department.

Mr. Gavril Gîlcă, Chief of the Environmental Quality Monitoring Division of SHS, is the National Focal Point of the Convention.
